Continuing with the government, states, and nations section of the course by examining social contract theorists Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau. Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau each develop their own social contract theory to explain the origin of civil society and government. You’ll notice that Hobbes’ social contract theory tends to fall towards conservative theory, whereas Locke and Rousseau’s social contract theories tend to follow liberal theory to government. It is important to note that Locke’s social contract theory had a great influence on the US system of government.
