1. The topic will be on GLOBAL WARMING/CLIMATE CHANGE and write a short proposal, containing:

a) the issue you like to write on; GLOBAL WARMING/CLIMATE CHANGE

b) a short argument or explanation expressing your initial thoughts about the issue and You’re required to use four or more sources for your paper.

This should be about 150+ words.

2. Then you will create a rough draft/final paper of your paper see instructions below:

The final assignment in this course is a 4 -5 page + (approximately 1200 –1500 word) Argumentative Essay on an issue about GLOBAL WARMING/CLIMATE CHANGE

I. Title

Your paper should have a good title – one that presents your point of view on the

issue in an interesting way. Choose this carefully, after you’ve written the paper.

II. An introduction.
This should include a brief statement of what you’re going to argue about, and establish some context for the issue.
•Why is the issue important? Why are you writing about it?
•What (in brief) will be your argument?
•(optional) What is one of the main counterarguments you will have to address?

You can also include a “hook” — something that grabs the reader’s attention and motivates him (me!) to continue to read. It should not include: a “master key” type phrase, “Since the dawn of time, mankind has been dealing with …” “In today’s world, we…”

III. Presentation of arguments.
This should include:
•Supporting arguments (A);
•Counterarguments (CA);
•Rebuttals (R ) of the counterarguments — these are counter-counterarguments.
•N.B. The reading posted for this week will give you some helpful tips on how to create good counterarguments.

Arguments should be free of fallacies. Any important terms should be defined.

Your paper should include minimally one each of these (A, CA, R) and probably will have more than one of each of these – see below for two possible formats.

Additionally, you should include one or more 3 statement arguments (claim, ground, warrant) and one or more analogical arguments.

IV. Conclusion.
This should include a brief recap of your argument and any implications of your argument, as well as additional questions that need to be addressed on this issue.

Labels:

The paper should include labels for the Arguments (A) Counterarguments (CA) and Rebuttals (R) – these will help you to keep in mind where you are in the argument. (It’s common for arguers to become sidetracked in a counterargument and lose their way in their initial argument.)
