This topic deals with how males and females cope with their roles as “men” and “women” In general terms, you could consider nature v. nurture debate. That is, are the sexes genetically predisposed to act in certain ways, or are they socialized to do so? Consider this: are boys allowed to play with dolls or girls with trucks? Do mothers dress boys in pink and girls in blue? What is the reason behind doing so? What are the ramifications? For instance, is it acceptable for a man to cry or want to stay home and raise children? Can a woman be callous and aggressive and still be feminine? Be it dating, marriage, employment, and/or emotional expression, gender expectations affect every aspect of our being whether we realize it or not. Discuss the ways males and females are impacted by gender expectations along with any recommendation that is appropriate.
