PROMPT: Take a position for or against Garvey’s “Back to Africa Movement.” Although I am giving you a prompt, you still need to write a clear thesis statement.
Garvey advocated separatism and relocating to Africa while other figures from the era (such as WE B Dubois, Claude McKay and Langston Hughes) believed that African-Americans were supposed to insist on equal rights and justice in a country they had helped to build, and continue to contribute to American society.
Use what you now know about the positions African-American occupied during the Harlem Renaissance era to support your main idea or thesis.
You may also use current knowledge of historical events
Garvey did not live to see to support your thesis.
You can quote from the poems and or stories/essays we have read to support your argument. Note that both Hughes and McKay wrote poems that specifically addressed the position of Africans in America.
Can you identify other writers who did that? If so, you may quote from their works as well.
