Assignment: A FREE PERSON’S CORRESPONDENCE—After reading the chapter, students will write a letter as a “free” black person. Select an aspect of free black existence, an area of the country, etc., and use this information to discuss the nature of your life, the challenges and benefits. In the letter indicate the most important issue you face as a free black person. Students are assessed on originality, creativity, and specific use of factual information from the text. The letter should be two pages in length and addressed to President Andrew Jackson.
