MODULE 15: May 4th FINAL Exam due
The Capstone Assignment: The purpose of the HIST 205 Critical Analysis Capstone Assignment is to facilitate student success with regard to the General Education learning outcome of Critical Analysis. After successfully completing the assignment, and in terms of history learning outcomes, students should: 1) possess a general understanding of Black troops role during the Fort Pillow Massacre 2) demonstrate an ability to use primary sources and historical narratives for critical analysis 3) be able to critically analyze complex historical issues and reach viable conclusions; 4) exhibit a proficiency in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of historical documents.
Capstone Assignment II: Oral and Written Communication HISTORICAL RESEARCH
Instructions:
After reading both chapters 10 and 11 and additional outside resources, begin a critical examination of the events surrounding the atrocity against Black troops at Fort Pillow in 1864. This is a research paper assignment, involving the use of textual and internet sources (students are instructed to use only one (1) internet source; but may use an unlimited number of hardcopy books, journal articles etc. from a library).
Students will submit a standard collegiate research paper using Kate L. Turabian footnote format, type written, double spaced, eight (8) pages covering both chapters 10 & 11 (eight pages include 1 page for the coversheet and 1 page for bibliography. It does not include the 1 page outline).
The paper will:
1. Critically analyze the Fort Pillow Massacre, i.e. When, Why, How etc.
2. Critically dissect and scrutinize complex historical issues and reach viable conclusions.
3. Critically analyze and study historical narratives regarding the role of the Conference forces under General N. B. Forrest.
4. Critically analyze and study the Union representing William Bradford, his Black troops, and the response of both the Union and Black soldiers to the massacre.
On a separate page include a 1 page detailed outline of your research paper which must be submitted at the same time you submit your paper. This is not included in the 8 pages.
Required Reading: Chapter 10 & 11 and outside primary and secondary sources.
Assignment due date & time: May 10th before 11:59pm. Please plan ahead final papers submitted after 11:59pm exactly (12:01, 12:02 and so on) will not be accepted, read or graded.
