The primary work from the anthology

Five articles about the critical approach, the work, or the author

RESEARCH PAPER REQUIREMENTS

Length: 1,200 words (minimum)—this includes quotations, but not the works cited page

Format: MLA format is required—page setup, quotation incorporation, and a works cited page

Research: Refer to your specific topic option for details.

The topic proposal for your research paper may be brief (50-100 words) but should be planned well and edited well, including details like punctuating the literary works correctly. Remember that major, complete works, such as plays and films, should be italicized while short, partial works, such as stories and articles should be quoted.

Prior to writing the topic proposal, please review the essay prompt carefully to ensure that you’ve chosen a topic that fits the parameters of the assignment.

In your topic proposal, you’ll include three things:
•What primary literary work your literary analysis will focus on (the story, poem, or play itself that is within the anthology)
•What the focus of your argument will be (a comparison with a contemporary film or TV show–be specific about what–or a critical approach)
•Why you chose the literature and focus you did

A tentative works cited is being assigned to allow me to preview your research. This allows you the chance to review your sources and consider how they fit together within the essay, but it also allows me the chance to head off any potential problems with sources or citations in advance of the final draft of the research paper. The research paper is a significant grade in the course, so I’d like to avoid any problems with source material early if possible.

An annotated bibliography is exactly what it sounds like: a list of sources that contains additional notes about its contents.

This task will look exactly like a works cited in terms of its layout and organization:
•1” margins on all sides
•Header indicating your last name and the page number (inserted, not typed in)
•Title included
•Line spacing: 2.0
•Paragraph spacing: 0
•Black, Times New Roman 12 pt font
•Hanging indent
•Sources alphabetized according to the first word in each citation, usually the author’s last name

This task should be submitted to the dropbox for approval. Students who are required to change a source will be notified by email.

This assignment is due no later than Friday, July 29, by 10:00 p.m. (CST). The latest I’ll accept past-due works cited pages is Monday, August 1. After that date, students will forfeit credit for the assignment.
