Find three (3) statutes or ordinances that fit (in your opinion) into each of the two categories above

Introduction: Over the course of the semester, we have look at and analyzed some state statutes ad
local ordinances which range from silly to absurd. However, trying to ascertain the reason for and
current validity of these statutes gives us a valuable understanding of the legislative process at the state
and local level. We can divide these types of law into two categories: (1) just plain silly; and (2) laws
that may have been useful when they were enacted, but due societal changes or merely the passage of
time, they are just outmoded and useless.

Assignment: Your assignment is:
Find three (3) statutes or ordinances that fit (in your opinion) into each of the two categories above.
Please provide a copy of the statute and an EXACT CITATION to the state or municipal code where the
text of the statute can be found.
Prepare a summary of each statute.
You must then choose one statute from each category and attempt to ascertain the reason for its
enactment. (HINT: it is usually easier to find out the reasons behind the passage of a statute by a town
or city legislative body. You can always call the town clerk and ask them. They always know the inside
scoop and they love to share that information with anyone willing to listen).
Prepare a six (6) to eight (8) page paper summarizing the results of your research. Please attach copies
of the statute or ordinance. These copies are NOT to be included in your page count. Only the citation,
summary of the statute, and explanation of the reasons behind enactment of the state counts toward
the length of the paper.
