Features of Young Adolescents
Order Description
explain one physical, one cognitive and one socio-emotional developmental characteristic commonly experienced by middle years’ students and outline how a middle years teacher might support their students to cope with each of the three developmental characteristics you have selected.
PHYSICAL- Significant physical growth and change, with enormous variation between individuals, often causing awkwardness and poor coordination; often a trigger for self consciousness.
COGNITIVE- Curious; developing ability to move from concrete to abstract thinking and to complex problem solving, enormous variation between individuals and for individuals at different times and contexts.
SOCIO-EMOTIONAL-
Peer relationships gain importance; at the same time, deeper relationships often sought with adults.
When outlining your supportive methods be specific and avoid generalisations such as ‘provide a warm, inviting classroom environment’…or ‘engage in a 20 minute activity break’. These types of statements need to be supported by providing specific examples of how you would achieve this or what you or the students will do. These supportive methods can be original concepts developed by yourself or they might be drawn from resources or experts in the field.
I’d recommend 200 words explaining the characteristic and 400 words outlining two supportive methods/strategies, for each characteristic. You MUST ensure each of the suggested strategies relates to the characteristic you’ve identified.
Your response MUST include headings and sub-headings relating to the assignment components. Eg ‘Physical Characteristic’, ‘Strategies to support’, etc
Judicious use of tables and dot points is also accepted.
Use evidence from a range of sources
