Exhibition ReviewOrder Description
For this assignment, you will be writing reviews of two exhibitions that we have seen in class. The first review should be 250 words and the second 500 words. Both reviews must be double-spaced and written in 3rd person.
Recommendations:
1. Review exhibition statements and wall captions to help understand the artists intentions and works. Spend time formally analyzing each exhibition.
2. Conduct outside research into each of the artists. Refer to scholarly essays (artists CVs and press clippings can often be found on their galleries or websites).
3. While you dont need to cite sources, work to incorporate existing criticism into your reviews by referring to past scholarship on the artists. Ask yourself: what are your reviews contributing to existing scholarship?
4. Consider the different review formats from our second class. Assessing how other critics work within various word limits may help you effectively use the available space in each review.

Exhibition Review
In this assignment, you are expected to determine the success of an exhibition/curatorial content, layout, and design based on your knowledge of the various styles described that have been covered in-class.
Go to a gallery/exhibition of your choice and view the exhibition. Take note of the show’s text panels, works, exhibition catalogue (if available), purpose, intent, duration and location. Your task will be to follow the predetermined path of the exhibition and assess the success/effectiveness of the exhibition.
This assignment should be treated as an exhibition review and should be 5-7 pages long, typed double-spaced pages (12 pt font) – submit as a word doc(x) file, NOT pages or pdf. Your main thesis statement should address this primary question: Is the purpose/aim successful, yes or now, why (not)? It is due at 9 am, Fri. April 7 – submit via DB on D2L.
ESSAY – The body of your paper should refer back to your main thesis statement and provide observations of what artworks are included, where they are placed and why, are there discrepancies – based on your knowledge of the various styles and periods – in the objects selected and/or layout.
Be sure to provide strong evidence that validate your assessment of the exhibition. If you do (not) find the purpose of the exhibition to be carried out successfully, you must prove this in your writing and findings.
