Analyze the current ethnic make-up of student population and to create an in-service training day to sensitize teachers to the cultural differences of the student population. This project will help you begin to make sense of why school districts differ in their achievement assessment data and the cultural population make up of a school.

Project Overview:

School systems often differ greatly in how their students do on statewide assessments. In this exercise, you will inspect different district-wide assessment data, note differences in the percentage of passing rates as well as differences in demographic data, and hypothesize reasons for the differences in assessment data.

Each student is expected to disaggregate school data concerning the current ethnic make-up of its student population and to create an in-service training day to sensitize teachers to the cultural differences of the student population.

Directions:

Create a table of the school population that you are investigating. The school population such as: the student ethnic make-up and the diverse learners (ELL & ESE population); the teacher’s ethnic make-up. Create a survey to find out how teachers feel concerning “cultural diversity”. Write a proposal on how you would conduct an in-service training on cultural differences of the student population.
