Write a 4- to 4.5-page persuasive research paper explaining and defending a position on an issue on which reasonable people may disagree based on a reading from Borders. You may discuss discrimination based ethnicity, immigration policies, the proposed extension of the wall with Mexico, hiring discrimination based on gender or ethnicity, or unresolved racial issues or other topics you discover. You may not discuss topics not mentioned in the Borders readings. I must approve your topic. Your paper should make at least two references to one or more readings from Borders about your topic. You may refer to the reading or readings all in one paragraph if you prefer. Use your sources to support your position. The audience for paper is your classmates; do NOT re-tell the reading but you may in one or two sentences give a brief description of the main point. You may paraphrase or quote small sections of the book.

To prepare your research paper, you should:
• Be at least 4 pages, not counting the title page, Abstract, or References page.
• Use a minimum of 5 sources, at least one of which presents an opposing point of view. Use at least two subscription database articles; you may use Opposing Viewp01oints for only 1 source, and you may not use Wikipedia.
• Use at least 8 in-text citations. You must mix sources and cannot use 1 source more than 2 consecutive times.
• Use at least one chart or graphic not to exceed ¼ page, label it and cite it correctly, and refer to it in your paper.
• Introduce at least two quotes and explain them, but use no more than 2 long quotes
• Use APA style to cite sources and prepare Title, Abstract, and References pages and divide your paper into sections and label the sections following the APA sample paper on OWL or provided in Unit 3
• Discuss at least one opposing viewp01oint, cite the source, and explain the inadequacies of that view
• Write a compelling argument demonstrating your understanding of the theme you chose from Borders, critical thinking, mastery of research and documentation skills, and effective organization and presentation of material.
• Write your paper in an error-free style appropriate for an academic audience
