This week we are focusing on Chapter 2. Suppose that you are the VP of Finance for a Community College in Roanoke, VA. The college president has scheduled a strategy planning session for all of the VP’s and above. The goal is to perform a SWOT analysis to help guide next year’s strategy. Here are some details that may help.

•There has been little population growth in the Roanoke region for the last several decades and this trend is likely to continue.
•The population in the region is aging. The younger, traditional college-age populations appear to be leaving.
•Increasing expectations/admission requirements from 4 year colleges
•Strong and growing service sector employment in health care and information technology
•Government funding is steady or decreasing slightly
Based on this information, your job is to evaluate the general environment and talk about how at least one segment affects either a strength, weakness, opportunity, or threat. For example: The aging population is a demographic trend in the area that creates an opportunity for the community college to provide continuing education type courses.
An excellent post will contain at least 8 examples and includes an example in each of the four areas (strength, weakness, opportunity, or threat).
