Intro:
Social media has been proven to getting teens addicted, resulting in some losing their privacy and increasing the use of drug abuse. There’s not one place in the United States today where there are people not aware of social media. Social media is the basic structure of life in this generation. People including kids, teens, adults would be so lost in today’s world without the use of technology. At these points we realize it is a good source of communication but one could argue that it negatively affects life on the daily basis.
Paragraph 1:
What Is addiction? Addiction is being trapped behind an electronic device. It is caused when we repeatedly do something we are interested in. In this case, one can easily get addicted to social media. As one passes by a bus stop, all mouths are sealed shut and eyes are wide open connected to glowing screens. In source A Hafner states, “Treatment centers for Internet addictions have sprung up not only in Asia but in the U.S. as well.” (Paragraph 6) One could see how social media does not just involve around the U.S but other areas in the world as well. Knowing there are treatments centers make everyone realize how serious this matter is. It brings awareness to the world on why kids should stop hiding behind screens. In Source A, The author also writes, “You just have to make better choices about what you eat.” Although this statement does not talk about social media, it proves how kids do not have a choice over this because it is a part of our generation because they do have a right to make better choices for themselves. By getting addicted, we are slowly detaching ourselves from life.
Paragraph 2:
Others might say social media raises awareness to stop doing drugs, but you can always argue it is what started the influence of drugs.
Paragraph 3:
Social media causes people to lose their own privacy. Social media always has ads asking us whether or not we agree or disagree, but we just click agree to move on. By doing this, people do not know the consequences that come along with it. One will never realize that some information will be given out without his consent. People will always have a way of finding out where you are or even when your birthday is. One may take that information given and slowly build clues as to who you are and where you could be and may lead to being kidnapped and the like. Teens never know the risk of clicking send. That could be scary to think about never mind being in the situation. In source D, by Rose Golijan, She says, “The “State of the Net” research and statistics from Consumer Reports suggest that there is an overall increase in certain digital problems – stag as ID thefts, phishing schemes, and security beaches – in the past year, while issues related malware and unauthorized credit charges are occurring neither more nor less frequently than in the prior 12 months.” The state of Net is not only saying but proving that there was a rise in all these issues due to social networking. Having nothing to hide is one thing, exposing your identity is another. All one could do is be able to control what they allow to be shown on the net. If the information causes a chance for a stranger to learn more about you, it is better to be kept off of all social networking. Social media takes away people’s privacy by allowing people to post anything on the Internet with little to no restrictions.
Conclusion:
One can conclude that getting addicted to devices, losing privacy and an increased use of drugs is caused by social media. Social networking was a delusion brought to our world. With that, as time passes, we are slowly lacking the elegance of life. We need to realize life is not behind a glowing screen. Social media leads to a numerous amount of problems, with unknown solutions. While it is an efficient way of getting us what we want, one will always argue that it has a potent way of destroying us.
