During Week 2, you will learn more about five popular research approaches, including ethnography, grounded theory, phenomenological, case study, and narrative inquiry. Week 3 introduces three additional approaches: mixed method, auto-ethnography, and feminist theory. The end of the reading material will also begin looking at generic aspects of qualitative research.
Understanding the history and meaning of the design, related issues, examples of how the design is used, and some words of caution included with each design will help you to become well versed in the nature of qualitative research. By identifying one design each week, you will begin to formulate a plan for studying your topic of interest. These two “mini-proposals” will be similar, but will contain differences based on the design chosen, and will provide you with the opportunity to flesh out the ideas you have spinning around in your head. For this assignment, use the information from your course readings to create a mini-proposal that outlines a research project focused on a specific problem or question and utilizes a qualitative method. Be sure to clearly define the phenomena to be investigated, referenced procedures and methods for the investigation, and detailed description of the form and substance of expected findings from this mock study. Ensure the problem statement is clear and concise yet conforms to the guidelines in the Concept Paper Template in the uploads.
