American Missionaries in East Asia

Why were educational institutions so central to missionary efforts in East Asia? What types of institutions were established? What did the missionaries teach? Why were these efforts welcomed? Give “Four” specific examples
This essay is a midterm exam and it “has” to base on the base on the following book
“Gender and Mission Encounters in Korea : New Women, Old Ways.” by Choi Hyaeweol or from article by Oshiro, George M. “Nitobe Inazo and the Sapporo Band: Reflections on the Dawn of Christianity in Early Meiji Japan p.99-126” This essay has to provide specific examples from the book. It can be either or you don’t have to provide examples from every book but one book is fine out of this three . As long as the essay indicates that the reading has been done. The main point is you have to answer the questions specifically and straight to the point and provides specific examples from the readings to answer. I will give you access to my account on Purdue Jstor and it has the full text for the “Choi Gender and Mission Encounters in Korea” and the text for the article “Nitobe Inazo and the Sapporo Band: Reflections on the Dawn of Chrisntianity in Early Meiji Japan” and also another article by Stoehr Augusta Moore “Mission Cooperation in Japan” The sources has to be these readings I’ve provided. Just read one of it and provide example and answer the question is fine. doesn’t have to read all three readings as long as one can provide four specific examples. the end result is the questions has to be answers directly and straight to the point.
