Project Management Assignment

Order Description

The objectives of this assignment are that you: 1. Gain a detailed appreciation of the structure, content and expected quality of a robust Business Case that is developed in support of an application for a project to be sanctioned. 2. Demonstrate your ability to develop an investment logic map for a project.
A number of recent project business cases have been compiled and loaded into LMS. Some of these business cases are deficient in scope and breadth of material presented; others would rate as excellent practice. An example of a well laid out business case if that of the Moorebank Intermodal terminal. Unfortunately much of the content of this business case is commercial in confident and thus it is not appropriate as the main case project you chose for this assignment. It may however help in understanding what style of content should be included in a project submission business case. East – West Link tunnel (2013) Sunshine Coast Airport Masterplan (2009) Auckland CBD Rail Link (2010) Salinity Treatment and Disposal Project (2009) Gas to Culcairn Project (2012) Metering project (2010)
Select one of the above projects and adopt the business case as your reference for discussion and development as detailed below: 1. Critique the business case and discuss in some detail the strengths and weaknesses of the business case compared to best practice. (For best practice read UK/Australian governmental guidelines and comparison with other business cases provided. 2. Identify the key assumptions underpinning your projects business case and go on to appraise these assumptions in the context of the risks they bring to the investment decision(Use table illustrate). 3. Develop an investment logic map for you project and then go on to develop and present a one page Benefit Map for the investment that outlines the Benefit: KPIs and measures for the project.
