Write a short essay outlining a case you have investigated or were a part of in some way, and outline your role and function. Then, given what has been covered in this chapter, “re-write the investigation” in terms of how it should have been conducted. Caution here not to actually re-write the file, but to write the essay to reflect how the case was investigated for real, and contrast the event with the cognitive interview process in Chapter 2. The goal is to use the “Seven Steps of a Cognitive Interview Process” as a template, and use this and the real situation as a “Simulation Exercise” re-enforcing the proper interview format.
