1. Share moment, incident or “a time” from your background when SOMETHING HAPPENED. Include some type of problem. (One to two paragraphs ONLY!).

For me, the essay should start with my background of growing up in Chicago, and moving to Qatar at a young age. This move would be my “incident” or “challenge”.

2. Go back and describe what led up to this moment (the “back story”). Then explain how you handled the problem; the steps you took. Include how you felt. (One to two paragraphs)

When my mom got a great job offer to work in the United States Military base in Qatar, my parents decided that the prospect of a financially stable future would outweigh the challenges my Sister and I would face. Need to describe how mobbing to a new private school was challenging – people spoke differently, behaved differently, etc. I begged my parents to let me leave after the first day in my new school. I felt nervous, miserable and lonely. It wasn’t until I made a friend during lunch that things began to change. My friend Jay welcomed me into his friend group with open arms. While it seemed like everyone else looked at me weirdly, he realized what I was going through and helped me assimilate into this new environment.

3. Share what you learned from handling the problem. Focus on one core quality that it helped you develop or was tested. What did you learn about yourself? What did you learn about the world. What was the upside? (One to two paragraphs)

I developed a more open minded and accepting personality, and learned to embrace diversity. I learned to take a genuine interest in meeting new people, and learning more about them. I have learned the values of generosity and kindness.

4. Conclusion: Give status update on the problem you shared. Explain again what you learned in one sentence. Then share how you intend to use what you learned to help you meet your future goals. (One paragraph)

Just summuraize how my past experience has changed me, and taught me priceless lessons and virtues that I can never forget.

In summary, this essay needs to show how my move to Qatar shaped me as a person.
