This is just a list of 3 or more research questions, potential search terms, and a list of databases
or other sources you will use to find your information. The research questions will guide your
research and help you narrow down your search terms.
So, for example, you might have something that looks like this (but about the text you chose):
the way Edna St. Vincent Millay’s sonnets use violent imagery.
What have other critics said about about her use of violent imagery?
How has the critical discussion changed from the first critics to look at her poems to more recent
critical examinations of her poems?
What aspects of Millay’s life and times might help me understand her use of violence in her
poems?

A (Excellent) 1. Writing is clear and lively with few grammar, spelling, punctuation, or usage
errors.
2. Presents three research questions that are clearly articulated, interesting
questions.
3. Questions are clearly related to the topic chosen and will be helpful in
conducting research.
4. Potential search terms seem likely to uncover sources that could help
answer research questions.
5. Databases are high-quality library databases, not things like google,
spakrnotes, or wikipedia.
B (Very Good) Demonstrates high quality in most, but not all, of the elements above.
Demonstrates adequacy in the rest.
C (Adequate) Demonstrates adequacy in most of these elements.
D (Unsatisfactory) Fails to demonstrate some elements adequately.
F (Poor) Fails to demonstrate adequacy in most elements.
