An important topic in staffing is employment testing. It is a challenge to predict whether a new hire will succeed.

Success can be defined in several ways. Will the new hire pass the probationary period? Will the new hire be a

satisfactory performer over time? Will the new hire be capable of being promoted to higher levels? Will the new hire

fit in to the culture of the organization? Tests are a concrete way to predict success. However, the use of tests is

constrained by government regulation. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s Uniform Guidelines on Employee

Selection spell out what organizations must do if they use pre-employment tests.

Write a report on the use of tests in employment. Your essay should consider the following aspects of tests:

The utility of tests (measureable benefits)
The use of tests in the government employment context
The use of tests in large business corporations
The impact of technology on employment testing
Your report should be no longer than five double-spaced pages. Cite all the sources used to write your report.

These will be evaluated using the following rubric:

Understanding of the utility of tests in the employment function – 20 points
Understanding the role of content validity and criterion-related validity in employment

testing – 20 points
Understanding of the impact of technology on employment testing – 20 points
Understanding of the current use of tests in business and government – 20 points
Written expression – 20 points
