Presentation of Structure of American Industry Updates
You have been assigned to groups for presentations. Your group should be visible to you on the Blackboard page for the class. Your group members and the topic and date of your presentation should also be visible. I have enabled group communication tools including emails, file sharing, and discussion boards for your groups.
On the date of your presentation, your group will give a 5-10 minute presentation on the industry we discuss that day. You will need to have presentation materials (e.g. PowerPoint or PDF slides) and prepare to discuss the slides and answer potential questions. Not all group members must talk during the presentation but all group members must contribute to the presentation.
The presentation should cover important aspects of the industry that were not in the book itself including how the industry has changed in the last 4-6 years. Potential aspects of discussion might include (but are not limited to):
• How does this industry relate to models we have discussed in class or other economic concepts?
• Have trends in the industry presented in the book continued?
• What is the role of international markets in the industry?
• How does the industry operate in foreign markets?
• What are the important firms in the industry?
• What are potential changes to the industry in the future?
You will be graded on your presentation and this grade will constitute 5% of your final grade. Half of the grade will be assigned to the entire group by me and the other half will be assigned to each of you by your group-mates. The portion assigned by me will be based on the quality of the presentation and the preparedness of the group. The portion assigned by your group-mates will be assigned through a survey asking you to rate the contribution of each of your group-mates on a scale from 1 to 10 and to briefly say how each group-member contributed to the presentation. These ratings will be averaged to find the portion of the grade assigned by the group members and then averaged with the group grade to get the overall grade on the presentation.
