Before you write your paper, each student will produce an outline of their proposed argument. The
purpose of the outline is to get you thinking about your paper and provide you an opportunity for
feedback from me. It is a working document, meaning you are describing how you think the paper will
unfold. You are not committing yourself to any of the details. The outline itself, due 1 November, should
be 2 pages, including planned sources. It should have a working title, a 1-paragraph summary of your
basic argument, and a bulleted outline of the paper organization. In addition, you should provide a
tentative list of your sources in the form of a bibliography.
