A person with high salt intake in their diet leads to high blood pressure for higher risk of heart attack. A dependent variable would be the heart attacks in the test cases. The independent variable would be salt intake in a person’s diet. Salt intake has an effect on the risk of a heart attack. The unit of analysis is the individual. It would also have to control for the person’s previous and current overall health status as well as any relevant medical history, both personal and family-related. If a person were to lower their salt intake, they could lower the risk of a heart attack.
