The goal of this is for you to form a well-rounded, critical understanding of the topic. We will create papers with different modes of development throughout the course that will generate the foundations of your paper. Your manuscript will include the following papers pertaining to your topic, each topic should be at least 500 words each:
Experiences that Affect your Belief
Describe in detail a belief about which you feel very strongly. Then explain the reasons or experiences that led you to this belief. Next, describe a point of view that differs from your belief. Identify some of the reasons someone would have that point of view.
Comparing Perspectives
An essay comparing and contrasting two or more written texts that present different perspectives on the same event or issue. Analyze each text based on the principles for using comparison and contrast in addition to considering the context, or over all situation, of the event or issue. Next, present several significant insights about these different perspectives by following the principles for using comparison and contrast yourself.
Proposing a Solution to a Problem
In a separate document, write an essay in which you apply the five-step problem-solving method (1. Identify the problem 2. Generate alternatives 3. List advantages/disadvantages for each alternative 4. propose a solution 5. Test the solution) to a local, national or international problem related to your topic. You will have to do some research and locate several articles that provide background information about and discussion of the problem.
Arguing a Position on a Significant Issue
Argue a position on a significant issue pertaining to your chosen topic for your research manuscript.
Final Conclusions
A concluding paper that addresses the following questions:

How has your perspective on the topic changed since the beginning of the course? How? If not, why do you think it stayed the same?
What is the most interesting/surprising thing that you learned about your topic since the beginning of the course?
If you could propose any ‘solution’ to your social problem, what would that solution be?
How has your understanding of the subject been informed by your research?
What obstacles did you face during the project? How did you overcome them?
How did you think Creatively? Curiously? Knowledgeably? Open-mindedly?
Include any additional comments that you have your topic making sure to include aspects from each of the previously written papers about the topic.
Include a detailed analysis of your intended audience.
At the end of the term, you will turn in a manuscript containing each paper as a complete research project. This manuscript will be uploaded to a discussion board for reviewing and commenting by your classmates and instructor. The goal is create a manuscript that addresses all of the following items:
Summary of the topic and its history
Various perspectives of the topic from your research
The problem and solution pertaining to your topic
Recent developments regarding your topic
Your position on the topic
Your final conclusions
Each individual paper should adhere to the following guidelines:
APA Styling
o Times New Roman
o 12 point font
o double-spaced
Cover Page
Reference Page
o Minimum of one unique source per paper
o You will need at least two periodicals, one of which should be a scholarly journal.
o One source should be a current event article from the last three years.
