Notes on the Turn-it_in Similarity Index (important)
In addition to the rubrics for the paper, Turnitin issues a Similarity Index once you submit. This is the explanation for the Similarity Index:
” A typical submission made to an assignment in Turnitin generates a Similarity Report. The Similarity Report is the result of comparison between the text of the submission against the search targets selected for the assignment; this may include billions of pages of active and archived internet information, a repository of works previously submitted to Turnitin, and a repository of tens of thousands of periodicals, journals, and publications.”
If you are not familiar, Turnitin issues this Similarity Index that does not exactly measure plagiarism necessarily but if it is very high, plagiarism is very likely. Thus my criteria will be 75%. If your Similarity Index yields a number below 75% the paper is ok. If it is 75% or above you will need to make revisions and resubmit.
The best thing to do is to do original work. Also if you are putting quotes do not throw in paragraphs and paragraphs of non-original work. For every quote, try to double the number of words of explanation or discussion of the quote. Email me if you have any questions.
