Instructions in Detail:
1.Review the topics list and do some preliminary searches to select one of personal interest.
2. Review the scholarly peer-reviewed materials relating to this topic. Read the abstracts for approximately 10-12 articles and select five or six most interesting articles. If there are asubstantial numberof scholarly articlesavailable, focus on a particular issue or themein order to narrow your research. If there are very few articles, find three relevant articles andtwo book chapters or sections.
3. Using MLA-style create an annotated bibliography of the sesources. In your own words, summarize the content of each article and identify its core argument. Each entry should be 200 words long.
4. Write a 600 word summary that provides an overview of the discussion represented by the set of sources. Note which issues (aesthetic, philosophical or social) are discussed and where there are agreements ordisagreements between the authors who are researching this issue. Remember, you are reporting on a scholarly conversation aboutthe topic. This is a literature review. You are not writing an opinion piece about thisissue, nor are you writing a historyof the phenomenon.
5. Conclude your summary by suggesting one or two further research questions relating to this topic. These questions might either be issues that remained un-addressed by the literature or questions that you would need to answer to develop deeper research.
