What is ringing in the ears? Basically what happens is the soft tissue of the ear starts to wear out. When this happens, it often results in some increase in pressure that is heard as ringing.
There are several things that causes ringing in the ears. Acoustic trauma, tumors, allergic reactions, high noise levels, damage from repeated ear infections, and certain medications can all result in ringing.
