Drama

Essay Three: Drama
You must construct an argumentative (thesis-driven) essay that is around four double-spaced pages in length based upon your critical analysis of Death of a Salesman and/or Fences.  For this assignment, research is a requirement, and you should include at least two scholarly sources.  Don’t forget to properly cite these both parenthetically (in-text) and in a works cited page.  Your essay must be typed and follow all MLA formatting rules.  Please have a hard copy of your final essay to turn in on 4/27/16 and a rough draft on 4/25/16.  Also, you must upload your essay to Turnitin before class time on the due date.
Please respond to one of the prompts below:
1.    Willy Loman talks a lot about being “well-liked.”  How likable is he?  Overall, do you see him as an admirable character, or is he loathsome—or somewhere in between?  Be specific, and describe particular scenes that defend your position in detail.
2.    Discuss either Fences or Death of a Salesman (or both) in relation to the American Dream.  What challenges do the protagonists face in their attempts to climb the socioeconomic ladder?  Is happiness attainable within the 20th century American landscapes that the playwrights describe?

3.    How is the subject of sports involved in each play?  What sorts of rewards/dangers are linked with the pursuit of athletic dreams in these works?  Discuss specific characters and their relationships with sports as a source of identity.
