Please answer the following discussion questions in detail and provide references.
5. A couple of years ago, a 10-year old in Pennsylvania was denied bail after having been charged with the murder of an elderly neighbor. Do you believe this 10 year old should be held in detention without bail? Now the circumstances are a little unusual and you will need to research it. But the bottom line question remains, should a 10 year old child be held without bail and be maintained in custody until trial? What factors does the bail granting authority need to take into consideration? Is the defendant’s age one of the factors which need to be considered? What would you do as a jail administrator if you were charged with housing a 10 year old awaiting trial?
6. You have been tasked with preparing a lesson plan on how to manage inmate behavior in the jail. This discussion should take into account of how you would accomplish the development of a lesson plan. I am not interested in you completing a lesson plan, I am interested in the steps you would take to develop the lesson plan.
7. Providing health care to a jail population is significantly different than providing health care to a prison population. From a public health perspective what responsibility do you have as a jail administrator in fostering the continuity of care for an offender who is released on bail but you find out during your intake screening process has a bloodborne pathogen? Or do you have any responsibility at all – the inmate was arrested and released within 24 hours.
8. For the past several years, as part of justice reinvestment, offenders serving misdemeanor terms of confinement who in past years served their sentences in prison are in NC serving their terms in jails. Additionally persons who are serving DWI terms are now serving their terms in county jails. What do you think about this movement as part of justice reinvestment and what are the pros and cons.
