Braff (2013) wrote an article in Crain’s Chicago Business that focused on Chicago’s most active networking groups. She stated: “Social media can’t replace the simple value of building trust, sharing human stories and forming real relationships” (para 1.). While this social networking site may be a useful tool in terms of professional networking, there are other community organizations that can help you in advancing your leadership career. Consider becoming involved with your local Chamber of Commerce. Chambers of Commerce are established in local communities to support business owners. Their focus is on advocacy for business owners, community involvement, and the development of leadership. Many chambers have leadership programs that individuals can become involved in. Take a look at some of the programs offered at chambers across the country.
