We use aseptic procedures when working in the microbiology laboratory but also they are used in our everyday lives and in the field of environmental and public health. Discuss the importance of maintaining asepsis and give 2 examples, outside of the laboratory, of how and why we would use them 2) List the major groups of organisms studied in the discipline of microbiology. Give examples of ways in which these groups of organisms may be advantageous and disadvantageous to humans and the environment. 3) Describe how Robert Koch and John Snow contributed to our understanding of the relationship between microbes and disease? 4) With reference to 2 named examples with which you are familiar, describe the components of the infectious disease cycle (also known as the chain of infection). Discuss the public health significance of each of your chosen examples and describe how we apply our knowledge of the cycle in prevention and control of the spread of disease The work should be around 1800- 2000 words divided on all questions but mostly concentrate on questions 2,3,4.
