Diffusion of water across the plasma membrane of red blood cells

LAB REPORT FORMAT AND INFORMATION

The format you should be following is listed below and throughout the remainder of this handout. It should include all headings and subheadings listed on these pages. The content that also should be included goes as follows:
I. Introduction
a.) Background Information –
1. Include background information specifically related to the topic.
This information should provide a basis for understanding the
experiment. Include all concepts that were presented in the lab
manual that introduced you to the topic. Reread your handout and
the information that pertains to concepts that is located in the
manual and note all dark print works and what their relationship
to the topic is and include them in your paper. If you use
diagrams, put all diagrams within the body of your paper, not at
the end or beginning of the report.
2. You need to show the relationship between the topic and the experiment you have performed, which your report is over. You need to talk about what the experimental variable (independent), or manipulative variable is the variable that you are testing for while all others are held constant, It is the one that you change throughout the exp. to see the result of. The responding (dependent) variable, is the variable that is the result or change that occurs due to the ex. variable. and the controlled variables, the one that goes through all the steps of the experiment but lacks one essential factor – the exp. variable. It will show a NEGATIVE RESULT.
b.)Purpose – One sentence stating purpose of experiment and lab
report.

b.) Explanation – This is the most important part of the Lab Report and therefore weighs the most grade wise. Explain the results that you have recorded taking each slide stating the contents and other information from your table above.
a.) Table –

Slide #1 (contents) Sheep’s Blood (tonicity) Control center Results (terms) Same, Normal (appearance)Small, Close together
Slide #2 (contents)NaCl 10% (tonicity)Hypertonic Results (terms)Shrinkage (Appearance)Smeared, Crenated
Slide #3 (contents)DH20 (tonicity)Hypotonic Results(terms)Swollen, (Appearance)Large, Far apart
Slide 4 (contents)NaCl 0.9% (tonicity)Isotonic Results (Terms)Same, Normal (Appearance)Small, Close together

Correlate information that you have stated in your introductory and apply it to this experiment. This is the section where all the information culminates and is made to relate from general application in the background info. to very specific in your experiment. Make sure you leave nothing to the imagination of the reader. **** Have someone, who knows nothing about the subject, read your paper and see if they understand the concepts and can following what is occurring. If they have any questions about any part of the paper, then you need to relook at that part and make it easier to understand. That is the way I will be reading and grading it.
c.) Clinical Application – Be able to apply this concept to a real-life situation that you may encounter as a nurse and need to treat. Make sure you are detailed in your information and explanation.
