Design a qualitative study
Order Description
Task 1: Design a qualitative study
NOTE: you will only be designing not undertaking this study
Length: 1500 words (Will prefer current references from 2010 -2015 and will like my prescribed textbook to be use as part of my references which is Kathy Charmaz, Constructing Grounded Theory 2014 please).
My topic should be relating to aged care.
Identify a topic of interest and a relevant research problem. Briefly describe the topic (3-5 references). Identify the purpose of your study and pose a relevant qualitative research question.
b. Choose one approach from Generic Qualitative, Grounded Theorizing, Phenomenology or Discourse Analysis. Describe the approach. Describe why you have chosen this approach for this research question.
c. Choose and describe a data collection method (e.g. interviews, FGDs) that is appropriate to the research question and the chosen qualitative approach (e.g. Grounded Theory). Describe and justify the sampling and recruiting, and describe how you will analyse the data.
d. Describe how you will ensure that the research is ethically appropriate. Note rather than simply give a general description of ethics identify any ethical concerns specific to the proposed study.
e. Describe what steps you will take to strengthen the credibility (validity) of your study and the transferability (generalizability) of the findings. Note, rather than simply give a general description of validity and transferability, describe what you will specifically do in the proposed study to strengthen these important elements.
Research Question – Clearly describes a research problem and gives a clear rationale for a qualitative study (i.e. how a qualitative study will help). Poses a qualitative research question that is appropriate for the chosen approach (e.g. asks about social processes and opts for GT).
Approach – Clear description of chosen approach (e.g. GT) and clear rationale for choice. Identifies prior assumptions of researcher regarding the research problem.
Data collection – Detailed description for data collection and detailed description of how data will be analyzed .
Ethics- A good general description of ethics in qualitative research; identifies main potential ethical concerns for proposed study s and describes how these will be managed.
Credibility and Transferability _ A detailed description of credibility and transferability and detailed description of appropriate steps to strengthen credibility and transferability in proposed study.
Task 2: Validity (i.e. credibility) in qualitative research Length: 250 words
Describe validity and critically discuss at least two different approaches to ensuring rigour in qualitative research.
Structure and cogency of discussion overall -A sound description of validity and description of different approaches to strengthening validity with sound comparison of strengths and weaknesses.
Task 3: Reflexivity and qualitative research Length: 250 words
Describe and critically discuss reflexivity and why it is important for qualitative research.
Structure and cogency of discussion overall- A good description of reflexivity and its importance and gives a clear example of techniques for reflexivity Relates how reflexivity has been considered in preparing for Task 1 of the Major Assignment.
