Go to www.soundopinions.org, click on “menu” and then “desert island jukebox” to browse episodes from this public radio program. You might also click on “classic album dissections” for examples of album reviews.
For each of the genres covered in the American music unit (gospel, folk, blues, country, rock, hip-hop, and jazz), choose one album that best represents that particular genre. Write at least one paragraph justifying your decision.
The album must be one that has been actually recorded–no “mix tapes.” Greatest Hits albums are accpetable, if such an album was actually recorded. Please use SpellCheck to make sure your grammar, punctuation, and spelling is acceptable. And remember that cutting and pasting from another webiste is plagiarism; using these websites without proper citation will result in a grade of zero (0) for the entire assignment.

Select one of the songs in the Desert Island Jukebox. They’re arranged by year, going back to 2005 (the show’s 1st season). As an example, go to “Lipstick Vogue” in Greg Kot’s DIJ list at http://www.soundopinions.org/section/dij. Click the “Go to episode 516” link. Allow the episode timing, navigation circle, and white play triangle to appear at the top left of the page. As you hover your cursor over the different colored sections of the navigation circle, the segment titles will appear to the left of the white play triangle. Click the yellow “Dij: Greg” section, and the Desert Island Jukebox segment will begin to play
