Gender

When a person talks about gender, what comes to mind? Is it just mere distinction between male and a female or is/are there any more issues that surround the definition of gender? Issues that deal with gender are quite sensitive; many people have even gone as far as arguing about what each of the gender is supposed to do. How can such conflicts be avoided? Is there a specific requirement of each gender? Do you think that the genders can result to abuse each other? What do you understand by the term gender based violence? With equality being the talk of the 21st century, do you that gender equality should be pushed into the front of daily debates too?

Literature

Does literature truly have an inclusive definition? According to you, how can you try and define literature especially to someone who has no idea what it involves? Can literature be traced to some point in time, or how can you trace the history of literature very briefly? How is literature associated with other disciplines? Some people have said that literature gave birth to most other discipline. Can you relate literature to law, history, philosophy and natural sciences? Racism

The word racism usually evokes mixed reactions and emotions. Through history, racism has always had profound effects on the human race. No one can truly try and give a satisfactory answer about how the different races in the world came about. Frankly it is an exercise in futility. We do not understand why some races view themselves as being superior to others. Racism gave birth to colonialism, where new worlds were apparently discovered! Funny isn’t it? However with civilization racism should be a thing of the past. What do you understand by the terms: racism, anti-racism and post-colonialism? Please try defining these terms and illustrate with good examples what you understand by each term in relation to the other.

Religion

Religion is as old as mankind himself. The same way mankind has had troubles over the years trying to explain his origin, so has he had troubles trying to explain the origin of religion. Religion is superstitious in nature; questioning issues that touch on religion have never had an exhaustible debate. Most people do not like to be questioned why they follow a particular religion and not another. Currently people are killing all in the name of religion; they base their arguments that whatever they do are orders from a supreme being who cannot be questioned! Should this be case? Highlight on the history of religion, the different types of religion and what you think religion should mean to people in general.

Slavery and colonialism

National and international boundaries of the world are as a result of several factors. Key among these factors is colonialism. But even before colonialism, there existed slavery. I do not know what comes to your mind when the term slavery is used. Can you please show that you are familiar with the term slavery and what were some of its effects; explain the onset and decline of slavery. Similarly, show the advantages and disadvantages of colonialism caring to mention if you think that what transpired during colonialism or during the colonial period was respectful to the colonized countries or not. Support your arguments with illustrations from recorded events and works by authorities who have spoken for or against these events. Could you have supported slavery and colonialism?

Sports, Culture and Family

Sports and sporting activities have been around for ages. It has been used both as a recreational tool as well as a health tool. Recently, it has been commercialized and people have earned money and fame from it. Sporting activities have been used to promote culture and enhance family ties. In fact sporting activities have been used to encourage social cohesion amongst different communities of the world. It has helped export cultures from one group of people to the other. Culture and family are integral parts of the society, and they should be respected and encouraged. In your own views what are some of the ways that culture, sports and family influenced and maintained the well being of society?

Aging

Human beings have been created in a special way. The process of growing is much more complex and it cannot be explained in few words; in fact volumes of books have been written trying to explain the growth process of living things. Right from conception –in human beings- life begins; it is a beautiful process that is embraced by many. When a person is born, there is usually joy amongst the family or society as it ensures survival of the species. What comes as a rude shock is the fact that a person has to age; a process that people abhor.  In your views, what are some of the ways that people can prepare for the aging process comfortably?

Gerontology

Gerontology is derived from the Greek words geron “old man” and logy “study of” which was coined by IIya IIyich Mechnikov in 1903. Gerontology is the study of the social, biological and physiological aspects of aging. Gerontology has been shunned by many people because it deals mainly with old people. The younger generation sees the older generation as a bother and they would not like to be associated with them. Caring for the aging has been left to a few dedicated members of the society. The reasons that people give are diverse for such disassociation, some are valid while others are not. What are some of the issues that surround gerontology? Discuss the different aspects that encompass Gerontology altogether.

Economics, population, health concerns, illness

The very basic factors that affect human life can be classified as economics, population, health concerns and illness. These issues have surrounded mankind for a long time now. The various governments of the world have different sessions almost daily or frequently to discuss how to mange this pertinent issues. These issues are not uniform or standard across the world, and as a result they make it very difficult to tackle the various problems that come with them. What is needed is international cooperation and national responsibility in tackling these issues. In your own views, discuss some of the problems that the above mentioned issues present, taking into consideration the different strata in society and how they deal with these problems.
