developed throughout this course, and will develop new skills in research. For this assignment, you will: Generate your own topic of study on some aspect of environmental science from the course . You are free to explore just about any area of research on this topic that we have or will read this semester. Some common topics might be: Environmental implications of a particular resource natural or artificial; How technology has helped or hindered the way we live on Earth; Why recycling should be mandatory; Humans are causing climate change/global warming; How corporations stop the production of Earth-friendly products, ex. (electric cars); Why eating meat is bad for the environment. Make an argument about your topic. This argument must be clearly stated in a working thesis statement. All body paragraphs must be focused and organized, clearly relating back to your thesis. Research sources appropriate to your topic, and effectively use those sources as evidence to support and prove your thesis. Your paper must have at least five scholarly, relevant sources which help support your thesis. At least two of these must be scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles, and at least one must be from an academic book (needs to published by a university press and written by a recognized expert on the topic). Cite all sources using APA Format. Your paper must include proper parenthetical citations and a Works Cited page. We will go over APA citation in class, and you have Everyday Writer as a reference. Your research paper must be 4-5 pages, typed, double-spaced, in Times New Roman 12 point font, and follow all APA formatting conventions. A Few Notes about Required Sources: Your sources must be reputable and reliable. Good sources include the following:! scholarly books (should be written by an expert on the topic look for a University Press imprint as well) ! scholarly, peer-reviewed journals (Check the school databases for these) ! some websites (We will be discussing internet sources later.) ! Original sources Remember that a well researched paper will include a variety of sources. Also remember that for academic papers, books and scholarly journals tend to provide the best information.
