Data Analysis Task
Order Description
Data Analysis Task (use the data file “AuSSA_2005_sample” )
Instructions:
For this task you are required to use the data file “AuSSA_2005_sample” posted on
Use this document to fill in your answers. For some questions you will need to insert some SPSS outputs into the document too.
To submit it you will need to:
1. Save this document and rename it as YourlastnameDAT.docx
2. Change the header and footer to your name and student number
Question 1: Nominal Variable (3 marks)
a. Consider the variables in this dataset.
b. Provide an example of a nominal variable.
c. Copy the frequency table into this document plus all appropriate (but only the appropriate) measures of central tendency.
d. Interpret the table and each measure of central tendency meaning of each.
Question 2: Ordinal Variable (3 marks)
Consider the variables in this dataset.
a. Provide an example of an ordinal variable.
b. Copy the frequency tables into this document plus all appropriate (but only the appropriate) measures of central tendency.
c. Interpret the table and each measure of central tendency meaning of each.
Question 3: Interval Variable (3 marks)
a. Consider the variables in this dataset.
b. Provide an example of an interval variable.
c. Copy the frequency table into this document plus all appropriate (but only the appropriate) measures of central tendency and variation.
d. Interpret the table and each measure of central tendency meaning of each.
Question 4: Gamma (5 marks)
a. Using gamma, test the influence of age (v473 R: Age) on attitude that young people do not have respect for traditional values (v132 Agree: Young people don’t have respect for traditional value).
b. Provide a crosstabulation and gamma.
c. Interpret gamma and answer the question if it is older or younger respondents who think that young people don’t respect traditional values.
Question 5: Pearson Correlation (4 marks)
a. Using a Pearson correlation, test the influence of age (v473 R: Age) on education (v382 R: Years of education completed).
b. Provide the pearson output and interpret it.
c. Who is more educated? Younger or older respondents?
6. Pearson (7 marks)
Choose two variables from the Aussa data set to do a Pearson correlation test. (Note that in order for this to work there are certain criteria that must first be met to do with the type, distribution and association of the variables, so make sure that they are met by the variables you have chosen before proceeding).
a). What are the two variables, and which type of variable are they?
Variable A: Type:
Variable B: Type:
b). Enter the hypothesis and null hypothesis statements.
H1 :
H0 :
Conduct the analysis and copy the relevant (and ONLY the relevant) tables/figures below to investigate the following questions:
c). What is the frequency and distribution of each of the variables?
d). What is the nature of the correlation?
e). What is the direction of the correlation?
f). What is the strength of the correlation?
g). Write up a summary statement on the findings.
7. Testing for an association between two categorical variables (5 marks)
Choose two categorical variables from the data set, one which is independent and one which is dependent. Compose a hypothesis statement about the relationship between them. Conduct the analysis, making sure to select the appropriate test(s), and to include the relevant SPSS output below to document your process. In a summary statement, briefly explain the steps of process of analysis that you undertook, and your conclusions about the association between the two variables.
a). Variables
b). Hypothesis statement
c). Output
d). Summary Statement
