Customer service and Marketing in the Emergency Services

The fire service should review its missions and verify if the mission is meeting the needs of its customers. This is so as to compete with other such service providers in the society and fully meet the demands of its customers. In order for changes to occur, the mission must be altered. The alteration should come from within the fire service. This make use of innovative skills, being courageous, and the management being committed at all levels (Hyden 1). This essay will discuss a fire service agency, the measures it takes to satisfy the public, how it is improving the customer service and satisfaction. It will also discuss the steps I have personally taken to improve customer relations and service in the organization.

The public is well informed of the operations and the actions taken by the fire department when emergencies occur. They have a right to have the right knowledge about the operations, and the information also makes sure that the public is aware of the emergency services provided by the organization. Extensive advertising and presentations are done to build the public awareness. The public is also educated on the services. The education changes the attitudes and behavior of the people to prevent fires and injuries that can be caused by wrong attitudes and ignorance.Personally; I have taken steps to develop a positive public perception about the organization through public relations. Public relations programs apply different ways to get to the public. These ways include; public service announcements, newspaper articles, fact sheets, and presentations to the public. A public relations program focuses on the value of the programs and services provided, including cost effectiveness and improvement of community safety and awareness (Federal Emergency Management Agency United States Fire Administration 6)
