Students will write about a particular culture, which exists today and not in the past.
Students will find a culture by choosing from one of the following geographic areas:
Africa, Latin America, Asia (East and South), Middle East, Pacific Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Australia (the culture chosen must be indigenous) and it must be from one of these regions in the world. Students are to choose only 1 culture to write about. There must be sufficient amount of information on the culture to write about it.
Students will write about what is different and peculiar about the particular culture they have chosen and the particular people they have chosen to write about.
The assigned books may indicate which types of cultures may be pertinent to write about.
In their Mid-Term Essays students should address the following concerns:
How has the culture described survived following colonialism?
What cultural changes are evident in the culture?
What customs and traditions have been kept and what adaptations have been made by these particular people?
What is their religious belief? How has this changed?
Describe the culture in detail, what makes it different from Western society?
