Culture

What is culture?

Academic scholars defined culture as accumulation of knowledge, beliefs, value system, attitudes, roles, relations, over a long period and passed on to individuals through generations, for example, burial ceremonies. Popular culture refers to ideas, perspectives or other unique phenomena that occur in the mainstream of a given social group, for example, America’s popular culture of pop music (Payne and Jessica 554).

Difference between region and a landscape

A region is an area with a country or on the place of the earth with definable characteristics, and it is usually not limited to boundaries. The region shares the same characteristics ranging from physical forms to human activities; for example, economic region among different countries or a region with the same climatic conditions. A landscape is often identified for its aesthetic appeal and comprises all observable features on the earth surfaces such as mountains, hills, lakes and many others (Runge 67)

Apparent naturalness of race caused by geography of racial segregation

Apparent naturalness of race is a common and obvious perception to most people and the geographical spaces largely contributed to the racial boundaries since the Civil War in 1960. For instance, the black communities were located in regions away from the middles class whites and masters. Since then, the logic of racial categories developed tension that lead to the categorization of race (Adams 22).

Culture and economics

An open culture seeps into economics decisions since there is free flow of ideas on the availability of capital, human labor, compared to a closed culture. On the other hand, economics has an impact on of the cultural considerations especially on the size of the family in developing countries (Zelizer 269).

Transnational living

Employment opportunities are attracting people to move from one country to another with the hope to improve their lives. Moreover, the long-distance economic relations with people at the homeland are enabling factors towards transnational existence. The income generating activities are some of the opportunities that make people migrate to different countries (Plüss Chan 183).

Symbolic landscapes

Different communities have idealized landscapes to have certain symbolic meaning describing their culture. For instance, certain caves have imprints of human activities and the symbols on the walls depict particular human activities (Backhaus and John 3).

Disunited state of America

America’s core culture is becoming vulnerable to cultural imports from Asia and Mexican popular culture due to the dynamic process of the cultural transformation. Mapping the ancestor’s universal ties of America’s core culture of dance movements, it is at the periphery of extinction as it is being bled out by the incoming theatrical dances of the Asian cultures such as the tango dance (Fernandez 220).
