Week 4 – Discussion
No unread replies. No replies.
Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.
The Plea Bargain Controversy
In this week’s discussion, you will post on the issue of why the plea bargain creates such controversy for police and civil libertarians. It seems ironic that groups representing both conservative perspectives and liberal ideologies would be in agreement on their dislike of plea bargains. In your words, do plea bargains sacrifice too many defendant rights, or are too many benefits offered to (potentially) guilty suspects? Conversely, how might plea bargains offer the justice system an easier method by which to alleviate congestion on packed court dockets? Provide at least one citation from the Peak (2015) text or one of the recommended resources in your response.
Guided Response: Your initial post should be at least 400 words in length. Review your colleagues’ posts, and substantively respond to no fewer than two of your peers. In your response, examine the original posters’ ideas and argument. Determine whether or not their argument is sound. Do you agree with the statements made in the original post? Why? Why not? Your responses and citations must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Day 7 of the week, and respond with robust dialogue to anyone who replies to your initial post.
