A summary of the article: A review of leadership theory and competency frameworks.
The author discusses numerous leadership theories and models that are essential in day to day leadership management. These are summarized as follows:  The great man

theories, trait theories, behaviorist theories, situational leadership theories, contingency theories, transactional theory and transformational theories.
.  Behaviorist theories of leadership that are discussed in the article are the McGregor Theory X and Theory Y managers. Theory X argues than man dislikes work and

needs to be directed. Whereas, theory Y managers argues that human being always like their work and does not like to be supervised. Contingency theories constitute the

Fielders contingency theory model that explains that there is no single best way that managers use to lead (Bolden, et al, 2003).
The situational leadership theory is a theory that characterizes leadership styles in regards to the amount of task behavior and relationship behavior. The theory

categorizes leadership behavior types into S1 to S4. S1 is characterized by the establishment of one way communication where the leader defines individual roles and

provides a scheme of where, when and how a person will handle the task.  Further, situational leadership theories provide direction that is applicable to an individual

person. Here, the leader uses the two way communication and gives the possible psycho-social support. Moreover, the theory teaches that leaders must emphasize on the

effective decision making exercise. Besides, the theoretical approach emphasizes on the need for delegation and encourages leaders in senior position to well utilize

delegation.
Further, the Hersey-Blanchard model of leadership stipulates that the developmental model of leadership is the main determinants to the leadership behavior. Indeed,

leadership behaviors are divided into three that are task behaviors, relationship behaviors and maturity.

Transactional leadership theory capture leadership in way relating to transformational theory of leadership, thus, these theories are discussed altogether.  the

difference exist on the grounds that transactional leadership builds leadership skills on the foundation of the need of getting the job done and preoccupied with the

power and position; mired in day to day affairs and more focused in handling tactical issues (Bolden, et al, 2003). Transformational leadership builds on the needs of

a man to meaning, preoccupied with value and purpose, ethics, morals and values, transcends daily affairs and much focuses on the release of human potential.

1-The first impression I got from Obama’s speech was……..
That Obama as a leader is concerned about the welfare of the student population of the United States; he is easy going, understanding, eloquent and very charismatic
2. How did Obama inspire the students to take responsibility for their own learning?
By encouraging the students to discover what they are good in within themselves, to set their own goals , think of the contribution they are going to make to their

country and to be aware that Whatever they want to do in life they need education to do it, the president invoked the spirit of self-direction in the students. By

discovering what is good within them and setting their own goals, the students would be able to raise their educational and self-standards through their own self-

motivation without being pushed around.
3. In what ways do you imagine being able to lead yourself would be as useful for a leader as it is for students?
Self-leadership is the first step towards being able to lead others. By being able to effectively lead oneself, a leader gains the skills necessary to inspire,

motivate and give direction to others. For students, the ability to lead themselves gives them the motivation to set their own goals and work towards achieving them.
4. If you were a school principal watching the video, what sorts of implications might the President’s speech pose for you?
The president’s speech touches on fundamental aspects of education and growth of every student, as a principal, my leadership would be influenced by the part of the

president’s speech mentioning making sure that the students have the materials necessary for their smooth learning and also ensuring that the students are in safe

environment for learning.
5-If you were a classroom teacher responsible for leading groups of learners, what sorts of implications might the President’s speech pose for you?
A classroom teacher is the closest school executive member to the students in a particular class; as a class teacher, the president’s speech would inspire me to

develop interpersonal links with the students under my leadership and understand the various challenges facing them. It is much easier to help the students meet their

educational and career goals by first understanding them and giving them counsel from time to time.
6-If you were a university lecturer or community college teacher (equivalent to a TAFE teacher in Australia), what sorts of implications might the President’s speech

pose for you, given that these students may one day progress to your institution?
Students mostly shape up their career paths while in colleges and universities, as a lecturer, the president’s speech would inspire me to encourage my students to

critically think about the contribution they are going to make to their country once they graduate from college. I would also be encouraged to motivate them to try

again and again whenever their projects seem not to work as it is through being persistent that they will be able to discover their potentials.
7. President Obama has been described as a charismatic speaker. What is the role of charisma in leadership?
Charisma enables both speakers and leaders to demonstrate a genuine care for those around them. Once the audiences sense these feeling of care for their wellbeing,

they easily get connected to the speaker and they start resonating with the speaker’s ideas and vision.
Charisma in leadership enables a leader to gather followers through the prism of personality and charm as opposed to from external authority. It also acts as:
The leader’s attention searchlight.
Charismatic leaders are able to pay much attention to the person they are conversing with at a particular moment. They are, therefore, able to make their audience feel

like they are important, valued, respected and honored.
Charisma is an attribute that enable the leaders to pay a lot of attention in reading their environment and are, therefore, best at picking up the moods and concerns

of either an individual or a larger audience. They then are able to select their words and actions to suit the environment.
Effective team leader.
Charisma enables leaders to make their leadership style very clear and distinct, separating it from other previous or parallel styles. This endears them to their

followers who then believe that the leadership is much better or superior to the others. .
8. What other personal traits might be useful or necessary for a leader?
Drive- a leader must be able to have an ambition, motivation, energy and the initiative to achieve them. A leader must also have an achiever’s mind- leaders should and

must have a high desire to achieve their initiatives. They should also be creative, flexible, and honest and have high standards of integrity.
