Critical reflection on West, C. (2000 ) “A genealogy of modern racism”

Guidelines:
Critical Reflection
1. Begin with a quote OR a concept;
2. Stay focused and dive deep. Do not provide a summary of the whole reading;
3. With direct reference to the text explore the author’s meaning and intention with regard to the quotation or concept that you have identified (What problem is the author intending to address? What existing concepts or ideas is the author defining their work against? How does the author redress the pre existing problematic that they have identified?);
4. Make sure that you restate the author’s arguments in your own words. Do not use quotes to replace your own voice. Do not over use quotes;
5. Reflect on the significance of the idea or concept in relation to class themes (power/resistance/transformation) AND/OR explore the idea or concept with reference to real lived experience AND/OR discuss any limitations to the idea or concept that you are able to identify and how these limitations have been addressed by others or could be addressed AND/OR discuss the idea or concept in relation to other readings.
Steps 1-3 should comprise no more than 60% of your reflection.
I am looking for deep, focused engagement with the author’s work. You need to demonstrate that you understand the concept in detail and that your understanding as emerged from a close reading of the text.
As this is not a scholarly work you do not need to use a formal tone or provide a bibliography unless you refer to outside sources. Although the bulk of your mark goes to content, I will consider style and structural elements of your paper.
Start with what you understand easily and reach just to the limit of your understanding but not beyond. Go for clarity rather than complexity
