In your paper, describe each of your countries. These descriptions should take no more than
1 ½ – 2 double-spaced pages per country. Follow the section organization (headings) used in the
textbook for the model countries in Chapter 4:
A. Historical Development (of the Criminal Justice System in that country)
B. Crimes
C. Criminal Law
D. The Criminal Justice System
E. Comparison with the U.S. and with the model country used in the textbook that is most
similar to it
(b) Choose a criminal justice issue that is present in each of the three countries you have chosen.
In other words, don’t choose something that is a serious issue in only two of your countries. No matter
what issue you end up choosing, it is in your best interest to be sure there is enough material in the
available research literature to support writing a comparison of how different countries address the issue.
Examples of CJ issues might include transnational crimes such as human trafficking or financial crimes
(fraud, money laundering, scams, etc.). You may also consider more “local” issues such as juvenile
justice, child neglect/abuse, homicide, correctional programming, or violent crimes against women.
(b.1) In your paper, introduce the criminal justice issue and discuss how each country addresses it.
Be sure to include any specific statutes, the nature of the issue, and the extent of the problems caused by
the issue in the countries you have chosen. You might also include whether the countries have been
successful in their efforts and make recommendations based on research.
(c) Email me the countries and criminal justice issue you have chosen so that I can approve them.
Be sure there is enough information available for you to complete the paper before you submit your
countries for approval, as it could prove difficult to make a switch later on in the semester. You should
submit your countries and CJ issue for approval by 2/24/17. Start working on this paper sooner rather
than later, as the deadline (4/14/17) will not be moved for any student for any reason.

4. The references list (APA style):
You should use a minimum of seven (7) sources, two (2) of which should be professional journal or law review
articles. The textbook DOES NOT COUNT as one of the seven minimum sources, but you should list it on
your references list.
Do not use Wiki-anything as a source. Ever. For any reason.
Use political websites (politically motivated or agenda-driven) as factual sources in and of themselves with
caution. However, they may be cited as sources documenting controversies associated with your criminal
justice issue (if applicable). If you are uncertain about whether a source is appropriate, email me a link and I
will offer you guidance
