The task is to write two essays in which you compare and contrast the poems “Death Be Not Proud” by John Donne and “Because I Could Not Stop for Death” by Emily Dickinson. Each essay must be two full pages long and reference at least two sources. The essays are described as the following: Essay 1: Compare and contrast the poems using the terms on the Poetry Terms Handout sheet (will be attached). Use as many terms as possible but only ones that apply to the poems. Essay 2: Take the same poems and compare and contrast their themes, meanings, characters, tone, style, diction, etc. A file will be attach that can help you respond to important elements that reveal a poem’s effects and meanings. Each essay must start with a well-written introduction that includes a strong thesis statement which makes an assertion about the paper. Use primary and secondary sources to expand/explain the assertions made in the introduction and end the paper with a conclusion that summarizes the main points of the essay. Also, make sure to use quotes from the poems themselves (this is required) in addition to perhaps quotes from other sources. Use proper format, grammar, and mechanics. Also, reference sources that are credible and relevant to the topic. Links to poems: http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/15836 http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/15395
