Topic: Husbands and Wives.

Compare and contrast the relationship between the husband and wife in two of the following works. “The Yellow Wallpaper,” “My Husband’s Back,” or “The Story of an Hour”.

Discuss the speaker’s relationship with her husband in Susan Minot’s “My Husband’s Back” with that of the narrator and John in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” Explore the characters’ reactions and inner dialogue about their husbands. How do they feel about their significant others? What do their husbands mean to them? …do for them? …represent in the women’s lives? The theme of this paper should be an exploration of an aspect of marriage as portrayed in the two works. Both similarities and differences should be addressed. You could focus on women’s roles in marriage, men’s roles in marriage, or both.
