demonstrates: what they do, how they approach management of the various aspects of their operations and how they
demonstrate effectiveness in achieving their organisational objectives. The typology should be accompanied by a short,

Elements of Assignment 2:

1.   At least 3 CBOs described with organisational facets and management approaches, using appropriate research materials which are referenced.
2.   Management approaches are identified and described.  The approaches are discussed in terms of how the organisations demonstrate their effectiveness

Notes

1.    Think of an organisation you have come across in your study so far.
a.    What does the organisation do?
b.    What are the frameworks/approaches used for practice?
c.    What is said about these things in public documents: websites, annual reports etc?
d.    How does the organisation demonstrate effectiveness –i.e.  how do they show that they are doing good work? (This is often formally required in their funding agreements – some may use RBA, some may document case studies, some may use publicity, statistics etc.).
e.    How would you arrange these pieces of information in an ordered way.

2.    What other organisations might you compare this to?
a.    Similar function?
b.    Different function but similar size?
c.    Rural versus regional versus metropolitan etc.?
d.    For example you might compare three drug and alcohol services or a drug and alcohol service with a child and family service and a refuge.

3.    How would you lay out all this information in a logical way that is easy to compare?
a.    What is visually effective?
b.    What makes comparison easy?

4.    What is good/effective about the way the organisations work?  How do they compare from a critical point of view? Does what they do fit the purpose of what they say they do?
