Combining Nurse Leader With Advocacy

Nursing advocacy and leadership mean different things to different people around the world. As an individual I think that nursing advocacy amounts to celebration and championing for the rights of nurses and patients towards change that would improve the work environment and the delivery of services to patients. To some combining leadership skills and nursing advocacy amounts to gaining rights for certain groups. On the other hand, to a majority of nursing professionals advocacy amounts to attempts and calls for change in policies and resource allocations through political means. Advocating for change towards better service delivery and enhancing the environment for working for nursing professionals is in itself a major movement towards change in modern healthcare settings.

Social changes, historical events and changing consumer expectations towards quality healthcare have informed such efforts towards advocacy through political means. One of the most famous nursing leaders, Florence Nightingale did not use the term advocacy in her work but rather took up advocacy as a nursing responsibility given that her writings were consistent with advocacy for change in the delivery of healthcare services. Professional accountability and responsibility for individual actions are the foremost indicators of a nursing leader. This amounts to ensuring that service is delivered to patients as demanded and required by the law (Marquis, & Huston, 2009).

Personal and Professional Accountability:

I aim at improving my financial skills towards becoming an exemplary leader who is able to ensure appropriate resource allocation for effective and efficient delivery of care to patients. This means that horning my financial skills will amount to ensuring that I am able to optimize my contributions to my workplace settings. I have been constantly engaged in other programs aimed at career progression through training and education towards enhancing my expert ability in delivery of care to patients. In the learning process I have been able to understand the essence of appropriate and the highest level of moral and ethical conduct in the workplace. This has been central towards ensuring that I am able to provide my clients or patients with the best care. Sticking to nursing ethics and morals ensures that in encounter minimal problems and frictions with management and the patients (Marquis, & Huston, 2009).

I have been using a nursing manager inventory towards improving my overall skills and personal interactions skills. This includes ensuring that achieve higher standards and scores in the fields of financial management, managing human resources as a leader within a given healthcare setting. Such has enabled me to work towards better skills in managing and distribution of resources. Understanding the economics of healthcare and related financial policies is essential given the shift assumed by the government towards financing of public care. I have been able to understand the overall effect of insurance and how to deal with insured and uninsured patients with a variety of needs. In an evolving world and rapidly changing healthcare provision means, it is imperative that I remain on a path of constant evaluation to enhance my understanding of different issues and to gain diversity in providing services to patients with different needs.

Career Planning:

This revolves around improving performance in my work through evaluations and benchmarking. I set aside goals and objectives that I should achieve within a given period. I plan towards gaining a higher standard in terms of my ethical and moral conduct in providing care to patients and leadership to my colleagues. Working as a team while still retaining authority has helped me transform my work ethics in providing transparent and fair leadership within my teams in my work setting.

I seek to enhance my educational background with additional management courses mainly towards becoming a better manager in managing people and finances. Capital and human resources are basic factors of production. Hence ensuring optimization of a workforce while retaining a special focus towards quality in providing services is essential to the consumer. I seek to arrive at the highest targets provided for as a nursing manager within any given healthcare setting. My positioning as a nursing administrator within a career path includes adjusting to change as advised from the various management approaches I have learnt (Marquis, & Huston, 2009).

Personal Journey Disciplines:

I have learnt and gained skills and knowledge towards supervision of boards and other administrative qualities towards enhancing or improving imparted authority within healthcare institutions. This is essential towards ensuring efficient service delivery ad resolution of problems that may be a hindrance towards effective and efficient delivery of services to the public. In addition, learning about better labor laws and providing the team members with the appropriate resources for efficient service delivery to our clients has been my main goals. Appropriate and adequate resources with appropriate supervision provide higher results in terms of patient satisfaction. Enabling specialists to move up the chain of command and authority positions has been one of my strategies to ensure that we optimize the use of our biggest resource, professional labor.

Reflective Practice Reference Behavior:

These include my set guidelines towards controlling individual conduct within my position as a nursing administrator. I am driven mainly by the need to ensure that each day we provide better services than yesterday to our esteemed clients or the public in general. Diversity is an important factor in our country which should be upheld and encourage as it signifies freedom. Diversity applies to managing the employees and ensuring that there is transparency in allocation of positions of authority and ensuring that all are provided with an equal platform towards excellence within the healthcare setting. In addition, it also applies to managing a diverse clientele and hence ensuring that all are treated with dignity, equality and respect within the healthcare setting(Marquis, & Huston, 2009).

Developing my career in terms of undertaking improvements in various functions and duties as a nursing manager have been central towards moving me to changing my attitude towards leading others and service delivery. I have a lot to cover in the course of my career in terms of better decisions as a manger within a healthcare setting. nursing advocacy amounts to celebration and championing for the rights of nurses and patients towards change that would improve the work environment and the delivery of services to patients which is my main motivation towards providing patients with exemplary service within the entire chain of health provision services (Marquis, & Huston, 2009).

I am going to continue with advocating for change towards better service delivery and enhancing the environment for working for nursing professionals within all my working environments. This will be a major movement towards change in modern healthcare settings.
