Part 1: Directions
1. Create a 7 slide powerpoint presentation about one of the following topics:
a. Forms of music that developed in the Classical Period & Classical Style.
b. Joseph Haydn
c. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
d. Ludwig van Beethoven
e. The orchestra
After selecting your topic, review the material in the unit as well as the study guides for relevant information. Then do the following to create the presentation:
DIRECTIONS: (IF YOU CHOSE)“A. Forms and Style of Classical Music”
1. Slide 1: Title Slide – Include your name, section, and chosen topic
2. Slide 2:Intro. & Style Slide – Presentation introduction, and information about Classical style.
a. Describe the major characteristics of the Classical style.
3. Slide 3:Symphony Slide – Information about the creation of the symphony.
a. Define a symphony.
b. Identify the four movements of a Classical period symphony.
4. Slide 4:String Quartet Slide – Information about the creation of the string quartet.
a. Define a string quartet.
b. Provide information about string quartets in the Classical period
5. Slide 5:Serenade and Divertimento Slide – Information about serenade & divertimento.
a. Define a serenade & divertimento.
b. Provide information about their use in the Classical period.
6. Slide 6:Sonata Form Slide – Information about Sonata Form.
a. What is it? When was it used in the Classical Period?
b. Provide information about the essential parts of this form.
7. Slide 7: Conclusion Slide or Wrap-Up – Summary information to conclude the presentation.

a. Describe their involvement with music. What did they do? Who did they compose for?
b. Provide any supporting information as it relates to the Classical period
5. Slide 5:Specific Music Slide – Information about some of their most important music.
a. Describe their music specifically, listing the names of some important compositions.
b. Provide any supporting information as it relates to the Classical period
6. Slide 6:Your Choice Slide – Information about the composer not yet mentioned – You may use this slide in another position of your choosing. (For instance: if you wanted to speak more about their background, music, or importance – you could add to that section).
7. Slide 7: Conclusion Slide or Wrap-Up – Summary information to conclude the presentation.

5. Slide 5:Baroque to Classical Slide – Information about orchestra development.
a. How large was an orchestra at this time?
b. What changes happened in the orchestra as time went on?
6. Slide 6:Romantic to Modern Slide– Information about orchestra development.
a. How large was an orchestra at this time?
b. What changes happened in the orchestra as time went on?
7. Slide 7: Conclusion Slide or Wrap-Up – Summary information to conclude the presentation.
GRADING RUBRIC: (60 points)
The presentation will be graded as follows:

Slide 1: (Subtract up to 5 points if not included or missing information).
Slide 2: (10 points)

Note: A bonus of up to five points will be awarded for presentations that contain elements that go above and beyond, but the overall grade will not be allowed to exceed a perfect score of 60 points.
